Graffiti for Android
‘Graffiti for Android’ is a handwriting recognition app. I am sure that PDA users are familiar with graffiti. The data entry method is the same as that on PDA palm. For those who are unfamiliar with this method, you write letters on screen in one stroke.
For first time users, the input method in graffiti is different from the flick input and mobile keypads that you are probably used to. ‘Graffiti for Android’ is your chance to experience this method on your android enabled device.

Graffiti for Android:Space for entering text
Enter text with single stroke
Even though graffiti users need no explanation, let’s take a look at the basic operations of this app. When the text entry screen is displayed, you will see a black space instead of keyboard. You enter text in this space by writing letters in a single stroke.
Slide your finger upward from the input area to show dialog box with graffiti strokes. You can scroll through this dialog box to see the strokes for numbers, punctuation marks etc. as well. You might find it difficult in the beginning but once you get the hang of it, you would probably like to use it all the time.

The image below shows the stroke dialog boxes. The black dots in the box are the starting point of the stroke.

Graffiti for Android:Numbers go to the right
This app also supports Japanese language text input (Enable it from settings screen in app list). Also, the space for entering numbers and alphabets is different. Numbers are entered on the right side. This is to avoid confusion in similar strokes for numbers and letters.

Graffiti for Android:My colleague's PDA devices
People used to flick input method and keypads for entering text might find this new method refreshing.
One of my senior colleague who incidentally has two PDA devices says, ‘memorizing the strokes is difficult at first but once you do so, graffiti is much better than the flick input method’.
I didn’t know anything about the graffiti method until I came across ‘Graffiti for Android’. I like it and I am sure other first time graffiti users will like it as well.
To use ‘Graffiti for Android’, you need to enable it first. To do so, go to the settings screen of your device and tap on ‘Language and keyboard’. Make sure the box next to ‘Graffiti’ is checked. When entering text, long tap on screen to display ‘input method’ box and choose ‘graffiti’ to use it.
Summary
A handwriting recognition app in which you enter text with a single stroke. PDA ‘palm’ users are probably familiar with this method and first time users will like it too once they are familiar with the strokes.
Graffiti for Android is the popular, easy-to-learn, stroke-based handwriting recognition system. Draw Graffiti letters instead of typing. Version 2.0.4 (bug fix for short gesture recognition) supports Japanese and English input: word suggestion, auto-capitalization at sentence start, word learning and error correction.
