I wonder how many of you have heard the name of 'Hokusai'. People who have spent some time in Japan or study Japanese probably know the name of 'Katsushika Hokusai', a famous Japanese painter. The paint app 'Hokusai', appropriately named after the famous painter is bound to fuel the spark of your imagination. The app comes with an easy to understand explanation as well.

Whether you have a flair for painting or not, you can sure become a 'mobile painter' with this app.

It's all about creativity

This is not just another free app. It is loaded with many features which draw you into creating something on the canvas screen of this app.

Some of the cool features of this app are registering a previously used color for future use in 'fonts' and choosing from various line thicknesses. These two features are enough to create something on your device. Just set these two features and you won't need to waste anymore time when you start drawing something the second time around.

Don't forget to read the instructions in 'Painting Pic' before you actually start drawing with this app. There are important instructions on how to save the images etc.

If you are into Japanese painting, then the Japanese style background (the famous Mt. Fuji) might appeal to you as well.

Draw and Save!

It's time to start drawing now. Draw anything that comes to your mind; let your imagination run free (wild, if you want). Draw as if you were Hokusai himself (Picasso/Warhol if you prefer something closer to home).

You basically draw by changing color and thickness(size) from 'menu' >> font. To undo/redo any changes just move the trackball (optical joystick on desire) on your device sideways. If you move it up-down, the icon in the status bar will change from pencil to eraser. In Xperia, you need to select eraser from 'menu' to tools. The eraser is basically a white pen. Move the trackball left to undo any changes (you can undo a maximum of 4 times). You can also select 'undo' from 'menu' button >> 'Restore'. You can also 'Redo' by moving the trackball right (or select from 'menu' >> 'Redo').

It took me 5 minutes to draw a butterfly (See image above-I hope it looks like it).

You can draw from scratch or draw on other existing photos as well. This basically means that this app also doubles up as a photo editor. Use the text, stamp options provided to have fun with your photos. You can also use your own drawing as stamp.

Register your drawing as stamp from 'tool' >> 'stamp2'. I decided to put my butterflies on a plant and you can see the results in the image below(butterflies or flowers? You be the judge). It feels like I am an artist now.

I once closed the app without saving my drawing only to find it gone later. Don't forget to save your drawing before closing the app. The images are saved in PNG or JPEG format.

Summary

With so many features in it, it's hard to believe that this app is free. Even though you may not become a 'mobile painter', there is no harm in giving this good paint app a try. It's good fun.
